ITV announces Midsomer Murders replacement after Neil Dudgeon update

Midsomer Murders fans were delighted as two new episodes from series 24 aired on Monday and Tuesday evening, with Neil Dudgeon returning as DCI Barnaby and Nick Hendrix as DS Jamie Winter. However, ITV has now confirmed which shows will fill the slots left by the crime drama.

On Monday, January 5, the 8.30pm to 10.30pm slot will be replaced by Corriedale from 8pm to 9pm, followed by the new series of Red Eye from 9pm to 10pm, with ITV News at Ten airing afterwards. On Tuesday, January 6, Coronation Street will air at 8.30pm, followed by The Martin Lewis Money Show at 9pm, concluding at 10pm, before ITV News at Ten.

While viewers must wait for more episodes, Dudgeon offered an update on the remainder of series 24 and the upcoming series 25. He revealed that the two recent episodes are the first of series 24, with two more to air later, and series 25 has already been filmed earlier this year.

Reflecting on his role, Dudgeon said he takes it year by year and does not want to continue playing Barnaby when he becomes too old. He recalled his initial fear that the show might be cancelled after taking over from John Nettles, but was relieved when it was recommissioned.
