Love Island has been hit with 185 Ofcom complaints in a single week after viewers accused male contestants of misogynistic behaviour. The ITV2 show, filmed in Majorca, has sparked outrage among fans who labelled scenes 'hard to watch'.
Tommy's Kissing Spree Sparks Complaints
Viewers complained about Tommy, a builder from Newcastle, after he kissed Namibia and Ellie, and attempted to kiss Priya in one night. Fans felt sorry for Namibia, who was kissed just hours after Tommy had locked lips with Ellie. Tommy then told the boys he had his sights set on Priya, prompting further criticism.
Ofcom reported that the majority of complaints logged in June relate to alleged misogyny towards female contestants. On June 11 alone, 91 complaints were received after a challenge called 'It's Not That Deep', which viewers deemed misogynistic.
Simba's Reaction to Rejection Angers Fans
Simba also faced backlash after being rejected by Mica. When she declined his invitation to the Hideaway, Simba fumed: 'Now I'm going to look like a f*****g idiot, go talk to Angie and that.' He continued venting to the group, saying: 'I'm f***ed now, so f***ed, oh my f***** days.'
Mica told the girls: 'He carried on venting to the rest of the group.' Simba then marched off to the bedroom, muttering: 'I don't even know what they want man.'
Ellie's Explosive Row with Tommy
In further drama, Ellie confronted Tommy as he grew closer to Halle, a bombshell contestant and daughter of footballer Wes Brown and Real Housewives of Cheshire star Leanne Brown. Ellie branded Tommy an 'ignorant stupid f****** boy', adding: 'You need a f*****g word with yourself seriously… because your actions are f*****g wild!'
