Love Island viewers have issued a fresh complaint against ITV, accusing producers of an 'unfair' pattern that gives bombshells preferential treatment over established couples. The outcry comes just weeks before Series 13 concludes, with fans pleading for a shake-up to the format.
Bombshells Get Multiple Dates While Couples Miss Out
Series 13 of the ITV2 dating show is in full swing, delivering weekly dramatic twists. On July 12, one of the villa's most solid pairings, Lola and Sean, were voted out by fellow contestants after a public vote. Their departure followed the arrival of bombshells Elicia and Ethan, who each selected three Islanders for a breakfast rendezvous. Elicia has since focused on Finley, while Ethan made his attraction to Priya clear.
After just a few days in the villa, the newcomers were whisked off on another romantic outing in the July 13 episode. While viewers initially embraced the fresh arrivals, they have now voiced grievances about bombshells apparently receiving preferential treatment from producers.
Fans Demand Equal Treatment for Established Couples
According to reports from OK!, the majority of established couples this series haven't enjoyed the one-on-one romantic encounters typical of previous years, while bombshells have repeatedly been granted excursions beyond the villa walls. Venting on X, formerly Twitter, one viewer declared: 'The bombshells getting more dates is crazy. They've already been on these dates #loveisland #loveislanduk.'
Another concurred: 'I just realised this year we haven't really got many dates this is like the 2nd date we've seen this season #loveislanduk.' Fans previously witnessed Lola and Sean embark on their maiden date, yet the remaining Islanders have predominantly ventured outside the villa for romantic encounters only after being chosen by a bombshell.
Viewers Criticise Producers as 'Pathetic'
One disgruntled viewer moaned: 'Mind you there's been no date for Javan or Simbalista, they just want to torture Ellie #LovelslandUK.' Another fan shared their harsh judgement, writing: 'These bombshells get ANOTHER DATE, these producers are pathetic #loveisland #loveislanduk.'
However, some have noted that the existing couples aren't particularly stable this year. 'Has an established couple even got a date???? Clearly the producers have also given up on love in this hopeless villa. #loveisland #loveislanduk,' quipped an ITV viewer.
Future of Remaining Couples Uncertain
After Sean and Lola's departure, the longest standing couples are Simba and Angelista, Jasmine and Kavan, and Mica and Samraj. They've all had turbulent journeys thus far, leading fans to wonder if they'll endure. Love Island airs Sundays to Fridays on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm.
