A Lancashire business has said they were "gutted" after a scene featuring them was cut from the new series of BBC's Gone Fishing. The Milking Parlour in Sabden was due to appear in episode one last weekend, which saw Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse in the Ribble Valley.
However, one of the places the show's stars visited was not shown due to a touching tribute to the show's canine star, Ted. The Milking Parlour sells raw milk fresh from their Friesian herd through a self-service vending machine. Bob and Paul visited the site along with the filming crew, but a last-minute addition dedicated to the late Ted replaced their scene.
Business shares disappointment on social media
In a statement, The Milking Parlour wrote: "Who's tuning in to the new series of Gone Fishing? Episode 1 starts tonight and features right here in the Ribble Valley!"
"And we can finally reveal a little secret… This time last year, we had the absolute pleasure of spending the morning filming with Bob Mortimer, Paul Whitehouse and the wonderful Ted, who called in at The Milking Parlour to pick up some of our Raw Milk and Milkshake before heading off to fish on the River Ribble. We had such a fantastic morning, the whole film crew were absolutely brilliant too!"
"Now for the sad news… Last week, we received an email to say that our footage hadn't made the final cut. We're absolutely gutted, as you can imagine, as we've been chomping at the bit to share these happy memories with you all!"
Tribute to Ted takes priority
"But because this is Ted's last ever appearance the episode is being dedicated to him, giving him as much airtime as possible, as a final tribute. And honestly we can't blame them…how cute is Ted?!"
"@realbobmortimer @realgonefishing it was an absolute pleasure, thanks for stopping by and for the hilarious banter, we loved having you! Like we say, we are gutted, but these things happen and we'll still be tuning in tonight regardless."
Earlier this year, the news was announced that Patterdale terrier mix Ted had died. His co-stars Bob and Paul shared their tributes to their furry friend, as other stars and fans reacted to the news.
Ted first appeared in the BBC show during its third series in 2020 and quickly became popular with fans. He was given a lifetime achievement award during the show's 2025 Christmas special, as he appeared alongside Mortimer and fellow comedian Paul Whitehouse.
Ted's legacy remembered
Ted was rescued from a dog's home in Surrey in the spring of 2013 when he was about six months old and went to live with Lisa Clark, Executive Producer of Gone Fishing.
Lisa shared that Ted would be "sorely missed", as she wrote: "Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing. He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking jammy doggers from Bob and bait from Paul. He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen. We'll never forget him. He is survived at home by Bo the Briard."
