Joanne McNally axes Traitors podcast over BBC contract breach

Joanne McNally and Vogue Williams have said the BBC stopped them from releasing a special "tell-all" podcast episode about McNally's time on Celebrity Traitors, citing contract violations. The episode was recorded but never aired, prompting thousands of listener questions.

Episode Blocked Over Contract Breach

McNally, who appeared as a faithful on the recently aired second series of the show, shares the podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me with Williams. The pair had promised a bonus episode discussing her experience, but it never materialised.

At the start of a different instalment, producer Joe Attewell addressed the missing episode, saying: "I think it is now, eight to nine thousand messages we’ve had, and rightly so, asking where that promised bonus extra episode went that was going to come out on Sunday. We recorded that on Friday afternoon. It was a tell all behind the scenes and all about Joanne’s experience on Celebrity Traitors."

Williams added that she had "spent ages on research" for the interview, and Attewell said he "edited it as fast" as he could, joking that he was "bundled roughly into a BBC van."

What the BBC Told the Podcast Team

Attewell continued: "[The BBC] told me in no uncertain terms that just about everything that had been spoken about on the podcast was a violation of contracts that had been signed."

McNally joked that they would be "taken to the gallows" if the episode were released, and Williams added: "Turns out we can't say whatever we want. Sometimes you're not allowed to, but it was juicy!"

McNally was eliminated during the semi-final after fellow competitors suspected she was a traitor due to her mistaken theories.

Other Cast Members Speak Out

King Kenny, a recruited traitor, told The Fellas podcast that producers should "make sure that everyone wants to play the game effectively," seemingly referencing James Acaster, who backed out of challenges and revealed himself. Kenny said producers should ensure "whether you're a Traitor or a Faithful, everyone's happy to do whatever" as it "makes the game much more fun."

Acaster told Alan Carr's Life's A Beach podcast that much of his roundtable commentary was cut to keep voting outcomes a surprise. He also said he told Jerry Hall he was a traitor after she suspected him, recounting: "I looked her in the eye and said, 'I think it might be me too Jerry', and she said 'you're very sneaky'. And I told her I was very sneaky and it might be me."

The BBC declined to comment when approached by the Mirror.
