Jasmine Harman: husband's heart attack, family and TV return

Jasmine Harman is back on screens as the first host of the new season of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, helping a couple considering retirement in Costa Blanca. The 50-year-old presenter, who began her career in health and fitness before moving into television, has also spoken openly about her personal life away from the cameras.

Before her TV career, Harman worked as a qualified fitness instructor and lived in the Algarve, where she worked in the marketing department at a health resort. She later hosted her own live magazine show on Algarve radio station Kiss FM.

Husband's heart attack during filming

Harman married her husband, Jon Boast, in 2009, and the couple have two children together. In November 2025, she revealed that Boast suffered a shock heart attack while the couple were renovating their Spanish home for a TV series.

During an episode of Renovation in the Sun, building work was halted when Jon, then 45, was filmed being rushed to hospital after falling ill. Doctors told him he had suffered a heart attack, and he was aware that heart conditions ran in his family. In 2016, his sister Jo died unexpectedly at the age of 40 from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome.

Speaking about her husband's recovery, Harman told The Mirror in 2025: "Jon is fine now and he is back working. I know this sounds strange, but even with the background of what could have happened and worrying he could have died."

She added: "It makes you feel lucky he just had a mild heart attack and everything is fine. But the challenges life throws at you has made me take things in my stride a lot better than I used to."

Recalling the moment Jon began to feel ill, Harman said: "We'd just had lunch and he said he started to feel funny and strange. He went to lie down but he then started to get very agitated and said there was a tightening in his chest."

"He was having a bit of trouble breathing and everything that was touching him was annoying him. I immediately called the ambulance as soon as he said he felt funny," she said.

Mother's hoarding journey

Harman and her mother, Vasoulla, have been open about Vasoulla's hoarding. In August 2011, they appeared together in the BBC documentary My Hoarder Mum and Me, in which Harman and her siblings attempted to help their mother clear more than 30 years of clutter so Harman's 12-year-old brother could return home to live.

Vasoulla, who lived alone in a five-bedroom house in London, had been hoarding piles of old clothes, bags of toys and broken kitchen appliances. She could no longer access her bedroom and instead cleared a space on the floor of another room to sleep.

Speaking on This Morning in 2023, Harman said: "When I started working in television, it was my biggest fear that someone would find out about the way I'd grown up and the way that we lived at the time." She added that her priority now is "having a loving relationship" with her mother rather than "focussing on the hoarding" anymore.

Addressing her mother, Harman added: "She's helped me to become a much more compassionate person. We used to fight, didn't we? But now we have a relationship that's outside [of the hoarding]."

Eldest of seven siblings

Harman is the eldest of seven children, with two half-siblings on her father's side and one half-sibling on her mother's. In 2021, she shared a rare social media post with all six of her siblings to mark National Siblings Day.

The photo showed the family in a line-up during a garden gathering in the sunshine before the coronavirus lockdown. "Me and my siblings in age order starting with the youngest," she shared on Instagram. "Yes, I'm the eldest of 7! Love you all and can't wait until we can all get together again!" she added.

She tagged her siblings Jim, Cameron, Madeline, Maria, Andrew and Johnny in the post. The new season of A Place in the Sun airs on Channel 4 on weekdays at 6pm.
