Jamie Lee Curtis has finally shed light on why fans have had to wait over two decades for a sequel to the hit 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday.
The Oscar-winning actress, who starred alongside Lindsay Lohan in the original Disney film, revealed that creative differences and scheduling conflicts were the main obstacles preventing a follow-up.
The Original Cast's Willingness
Contrary to popular belief, Curtis confirmed that both she and Lohan have been eager to revisit their iconic roles for years. "We've always wanted to do it," Curtis stated, emphasizing their shared enthusiasm for another installment.
Disney's Hesitation
The holdup, according to Curtis, primarily came from Disney's side. "The reality is that Disney didn't immediately see the value in a sequel," she explained. The studio reportedly needed convincing that there was sufficient audience demand to justify another film.
New Developments
Recent reports suggest the project is finally gaining momentum, with original co-stars Mark Harmon and Nia Long potentially returning. While no official release date has been announced, Curtis hinted that announcements might be coming soon.
The actress also teased potential plot directions, suggesting the sequel could explore how technology and social media would impact a modern-day body swap between mother and daughter.
