The cast of the next instalment of The Inbetweeners have been spotted filming on Magaluf Beach, returning to the scene of the first movie 15 years on.
It was announced earlier this year that actors Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will reprise their roles as Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland and Simon Cooper in a third film by Netflix. The coming-of-age comedy, which also starred Emily Atack, followed the misadventures of the four friends at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive as they navigated school life, friendship and failed sexual encounters.
It was said at the time that the movie would be a continuation of the popular E4 sitcom, which aired from 2008 to 2010, and was followed by two films in 2011 and 2014.
Filming on Magaluf Beach
In September, the stars of The Inbetweeners were spotted filming scenes just days after Netflix announced that production had begun on the third film, with pictures showing Jay, Will, Simon and Neil back together at a mystery wedding.
Now, a holidaymaker has spotted the stars filming scenes for the much-anticipated third Inbetweeners instalment. Joe and Simon were seen strolling along the sand in shorts and T-shirts on Saturday (October 30).
The pair's stunt doubles were also spotted on set, and the onlooker said two old love interests had also returned after spotting Lucy and Alison, played by Laura Haddock and Tamla Kari.
Return of old flames
The British tourist, who did not want to be named, told Sell Us Your Story: "They were actively filming on the beach and I could see a few extras too. I heard an air horn go off and saw lots of people running out of the sea screaming too so with the extras in life jackets I imagine a quite dramatic water scene was happening."
"Interestingly, I also saw two of the actresses from the first film. It was the characters Lucy and Alison who Simon and Will hooked up with in the original movie. So, as well as returning to the scene of the first film, their old flames appear to have returned too."
"I didn't speak to anyone in particular but some kids went up to them and asked for photographs and they were told no by the production crew. It was a pretty decent-sized production. People from my era regard The Inbetweeners as one of the most famous - and enjoyable - series and films."
Return to the first film's location
Magaluf Beach was used in the first film in 2011 for the famous skinny dippy and boat party rescue scenes. It was set in Malia, Crete, but almost all of the holiday beach and resort scenes were actually filmed on location in Magaluf.
The first film grossed £65.1 million and the second earned £46.6 million at the box office. It was confirmed that The Inbetweeners creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris would be returning to write and direct the new film.
Beesley and Morris said: "It's been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we're going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans."
