A former cleaner on Channel 4's How Clean Is Your House? has revealed that hosts Kim Woodburn and Aggie Mackenzie rarely spent time together off camera, describing the pair as "chalk and cheese".
Jason Andrews, from Plymouth, worked on the series between 2003 and 2009 alongside his sister and mother, helping to clean and organise some of Britain's most chaotic households.
Behind the scenes with Kim and Aggie
Speaking on behalf of Zingo Bingo, Jason said: "Both of them were like chalk and cheese, like two colleagues you just would never put in a room together ever."
He added: "Kim was loud and a little eccentric, but she was very kind to the cleaning team. She really appreciated what we did. Aggie was lovely, but the only time you really saw them together was when you were filming a scene."
"Once the filming ended, they went in two separate directions because they're just two completely different people with different personalities. I'm surprised they were ever put together. They kept to themselves unless there were members of the public present."
Filming format and production secrets
Jason noted that the production was highly structured: "What surprised me was how methodical it was. From a production standpoint it was more about time schedules for Kim and Aggie. The producers were only paid a certain amount of time. In terms of the hosts, they were just getting what they needed to show on camera. Even though we were seen on the show, they always sped up our segments."
Each episode followed the same format, with Kim and Aggie surveying the property independently to dramatic horror-style music before meeting the occupant and overseeing a team of professional cleaners.
Health findings and tributes
During the clean-up, Aggie collected swab samples from the most contaminated areas and had them analysed in a laboratory, frequently uncovering bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella. Homeowners often suffered health complaints linked to poor air quality or harmful pathogens, and Aggie presented her findings to help them understand the connection between their wellbeing and their home's condition.
Kim Woodburn died in June 2025 at the age of 83 after a brief illness. Aggie paid tribute at the time, writing: "She was an unforgettable woman". Channel 4 has been approached for comment.
