Grand Tour fans do U-turn as new trailer wows viewers

Prime Video's brand new trailer for The Grand Tour has left fans questioning everything after a wave of positive reactions.

The show, which was originally fronted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, underwent a cast overhaul with three new presenters taking over.

Francis Bourgeois, James Engelsman and Thomas Holland feature as the new hosts in the full-length trailer, which fans are now calling "epic", following the release of a shorter teaser.

Fans change their tune

The change of heart is somewhat unprecedented as fans of Clarkson, May and Hammond were adamant the original series was irreplaceable.

Yet there is no denying the new series shows great promise, with viewers flocking to the trailer comments to express their excitement.

"I can't believe I'm saying this but I think this has a chance to work," one fan said. Another added: "I was one of the people that said they have no chance and that I will never watch this show without the og trio. But this really looks great. I'm gonna give it a try!"

A third commented: "This is going to be epic," while a fourth shared: "Honestly, the fact that these guys have the blessing from Wilman, Clarkson, Hammond and May... I'm excited for it."

A final fan agreed: "Guys, this look promising. Can't wait to see the first episode."

What the new series promises

When news of the revamped series first came to light, long-term fans were convinced it was destined to be a disaster, but it appears their views have changed as the explosive trailer shows the new trio taking on fighter jets and getting themselves into all sorts of trouble on their globetrotting adventure.

Prime Video teased: "In their first series at The Grand Tour wheel, Francis, James and Thomas tackle the big, important motoring questions of our time, including: can you sneak undetected across Colorado in a trio of Japanese microcars? And: what's the most unbreakable car in history? And: if you urgently need to put something onto the head of F1 driver Alex Albon, is there anything quicker to get it there than a Pagani hypercar?"

The streamer confirmed there would be "guest appearances from Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May" alongside F1 World Champion Jenson Button, who is spotted in the trailer.

Locations and cars featured

The team visit California to test out the latest and greatest American muscle cars, including the Ford Mustang GTD, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, and $2.75m, 2000-horsepower Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Evolution.

Elsewhere, they head to Malaysia to delve into the nation's rich car culture, before journeying through the desert of Angola in track-cars utterly unsuited for the job.

The Grand Tour premieres on Prime Video on September 4.
