Shaun Wallace threatens to quit The Chase over new Chaser

Shaun Wallace has said he would leave The Chase if another Chaser joins the panel, describing the prospect as "ridiculous".

Wallace says too many Chasers would be 'ridiculous'

The Dark Destroyer told The Sun, speaking on behalf of Gambling.com: "I can’t see any other chasers being appointed. And if it got too crowded, I’d probably leave."

He added: "I think if they had one more, then I’d consider it [quitting]. Because it would look ridiculous to have too many chasers."

The show's Chaser lineup over the years

The Chase began in 2009 with just Shaun Wallace and Mark Labbett. Anne Hegerty joined in 2010, followed by Paul Sinha two series later. Jenny Ryan joined in series nine. Darragh Ennis, who first appeared as a contestant, joined the panel in 2020 for series 13.

The Chasers were discovered through competitive quizzing, TV game show appearances and industry recommendations. Mark appeared on University Challenge, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (winning £32,000), and won Only Connect in 2009. Shaun won Mastermind in 2004. Anne was a former journalist who competed on Mastermind in 1987 and acted as a "Phone a Friend" lifeline on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Paul was a top-ranked quizzer scouted by producers. Jenny was originally a question writer for the show's pilot in 2009 and was later recommended by Anne for an on-screen role.
