Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing is set to return on Sunday (October 25) for a brand new series on BBC Two. The fan-favourite show features comedians Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse as they travel across the UK's stunning landscape and fish in various lakes, rivers and canals.
A Farewell to Ted
The first episode is set to be emotional as it's the last featuring their little canine pal, Ted, who died earlier this year. The characterful dog was the show's much-loved third wheel after he was rescued from a dog home in 2013 by the show's producer, Lisa Clark. The Patterdale Terrier even had his own Instagram account, which boasts nearly 300k followers.
In the first episode of season nine, Paul and Bob will be joined by Ted for the very last time as they visit Lancashire to fish in the River Ribble before traveling on to Norfolk for the second episode, where the duo fish breathtaking lakes for bream.
Heartfelt Tributes
Taking to social media in April, Bob, 67, confirmed Ted's death with a heartfelt tribute, and wrote: "So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much... and away boss".
Meanwhile, Paul, 68, added: "Bye bye, Ted, old friend. He wasn't a dog, he was a species all of his own. He's gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you, mate."
New Season Details
Taking to Instagram on Monday (October 19), the BBC confirmed the new season of Gone Fishing with an amusing first-look trailer and announced that the first episode will air on Sunday 25 October on BBC Two, with a new episode to follow every week.
In the short clip, Bob can be heard asking Paul to "put some music on" and "find something decent" while driving through stunning countryside. The clip then cuts to Ted drinking water from a river before the beloved pet looks directly at the camera and licks his nose.
The two comedians are then seen fly-fishing, sea-fishing, and standing beside a breathtaking waterfall before they pedal along a road, wearing high-vis jackets and laughing.
