This Morning viewers were left in tears during a segment featuring Sylvia Van Atta, owner of Many Tears Animal Rescue in south Wales. Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Sylvia revealed the centre has been hit 'really hard' by the pandemic, with a 'nightmare' struggle to keep going due to lack of funds.
Sylvia disclosed that 15 dogs brought to the centre in the past year had arrived because their owners took their own lives, a 'massive and tragic increase' compared to the usual rate of once every three years. She also showed off several dogs available for rehoming, including a cockapoo, a greyhound, and a dwarf puppy with a short life expectancy.
Viewers took to Twitter to express their emotions, with one writing: 'Best segment #thismorning have had for a while; fantastic rescue centre.' Another said: 'What a wonderful woman. That little dog Dory broke my heart!' A third added: 'Seeing all those dogs & pups on #thismorning is so heartbreaking, hope they all get a good home they deserve.'
Many praised the segment for highlighting the importance of adopting rather than shopping for pets, with one viewer urging: 'If you really want a dog give your money to a charity not puppy farms... #AdoptDontShop.' The Samaritans helpline is available 24/7 on 116 123 for anyone struggling.
