Susanna Reid has announced she will not be presenting Good Morning Britain (GMB) on Monday, marking her second consecutive absence due to vocal cord problems. The 53-year-old presenter took to social media to update fans, explaining that her vocal cords are still affected by a mild infection, which she confirmed is not Covid-19.
In a tweet, Reid wrote: 'Sorry not to be back @gmb with you all in the morning. Vocal cords still affected. Recovering with specialist treatment and brilliant tips from viewers. See you very soon! Sx.' She shared a similar message on Instagram, accompanied by a video clip showing her strained voice.
Reid first lost her voice after attending the National Television Awards (NTAs) on Wednesday, 5 September. She was forced to pull out of hosting GMB at the last minute that day, appearing via video link from her dressing room to explain her absence. Charlotte Hawkins stepped in to co-host alongside Ed Balls.
During that appearance, Reid speculated that the heat at the NTAs might have inflamed her vocal cords. She noted she had left the event early, at 9pm, and does not drink or smoke. Ed Balls confirmed her voice had been fine the previous evening.
Reid has been following specialist advice, including steaming and drinking honey, lemon, ginger, and turmeric tea, as well as plenty of water. She expressed gratitude to GMB colleagues for stepping in and to viewers for their tips. Fans and fellow presenters, including Channel 5's Dan Walker, have sent messages of support, wishing her a speedy recovery.
