Emmerdale's Kev Barton quits café job for new career

Emmerdale's Kev Barton is set to make a shock decision that will change his working life, and not everyone will be happy about it. The ITV soap's bad boy, played by Chris Coghill, has become a pillar of support for former rival Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) as she grieves the sudden death of her husband Jimmy (Nick Miles).

In a heartbreaking recent scene, the widower was left overwhelmed by the lunchtime rush at the café and ordered customers to leave immediately. It was Kev who managed to convince Nicola to accept support as the pair hugged before sharing a heart-to-heart about Jimmy.

Nicola found the strength to open up about her grief and was taken aback to see a more vulnerable side to ex-convict Kev as she admitted she cannot sleep without hearing Jimmy's loud snoring. In a sweet gesture, Kev offered her a change of scenery and proposed she sleep in his bed for the night, which she accepted. Later, Nicola still could not get any sleep and was about to return home when she found Kev sleeping on the sofa. As his snores rippled through the living room, she lay down next to him and soon fell sound asleep.

Laurel and Lewis Notice a Connection

In the forthcoming Emmerdale scenes, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) notices something in the air between her best friend Nicola and Kev, following their sleep over at Woodbine Cottage. She mentions it to Nicola, wondering if Kev has feelings for her, but the widow is shocked by the implication.

Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) is also convinced that his dad Kev is harbouring feelings for Nicola and is left a little concerned.

Kev Lands a New Role at the Smokehouse

In another twist, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) reluctantly gives his ex-husband Kev a shot to prove himself at cooking some steaks, as he tries to get his new restaurant off the ground, and he is left impressed. Despite Aaron Dingle's (Danny Miller) grievances, Robert offers Kev a chance at running the kitchen at the Smokehouse, leaving his son Lewis so proud of him.

The new job opportunity means Kev will have to leave his current role at the café, ending his working relationship with boss Nicola. When he drops the news, they are both left saddened.

Before Kev departs, Nicola suggests one last cup of tea together, but he rejects the idea, as they are both a little heartbroken. Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
