Lorraine Kelly has revealed she will never use weight loss jabs, opting instead for a health kick with her husband Steve Smith that involved cutting out alcohol and junk food, walking the dog and swimming.
The 66-year-old ITV star, speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, admitted she and her husband were both out of shape and determined to change. She confessed she had been comfort eating after her father died in January and put on "far too much weight".
A Family Motivation
Kelly said she knew she had to act because her daughter was getting married in July and her husband "couldn't fit into his kilt". The couple stopped drinking, stopped eating rubbish and reduced their portions of cake and chocolate.
"And just walking - walking the dog, doing a bit of swimming, all the things we know work. Because there's no magic bullet," she said. "I mean, I know there's things like jabs and stuff like that, but that's for people that are really morbidly overweight."
She added she wanted to be healthier to look after her granddaughter Billie and keep up with her, saying: "You turn your back for one second, and they're over there, and they're away over here, and you're running to keep up with them."
National Book of Bakes Launch
Despite her resolve, Kelly has had reason to falter thanks to her grandmother's Dundee Cake recipe, which she shared with HP as she helped launch The National Book of Bakes. The book invited people across Britain to submit treasured family recipes and the stories behind them, which were then printed.
The project came about after research showed some of Britain's most treasured bake recipes risk disappearing from kitchens. Kelly said hundreds of people sent in their precious recipes, written on old envelopes and in jotters.
Kelly praised the printed book, saying she likes to hold things in her hands and does not trust digital boarding passes in case her battery dies. She said the recipes will be passed down through generations, noting her daughter is a brilliant baker who makes the best sticky toffee pudding.
