Emmerdale fans were delighted when real-life married couple Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry, who play Cain Dingle and Rhona Goskirk, shared a rare scene together on the ITV soap. The couple, who met at drama school in 1994 and married in 2003, appeared together in Tuesday's episode (October 20), a rare occurrence for the pair.
Fans react to Cain and Rhona scene
In the episode, Cain chatted to Rhona in The Woolpack about Belle Dingle's abusive ex Tom King, played by James Chase, who is being released from prison soon. The scene sparked a wave of comments on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, with one person writing: “So sweet to see Cain and Rhona in a scene together knowing they’re together in real life.”
Another fan commented: “I didn’t know they were together in real life!” while a third added: “Rhona and Cain in same scenes, how lovely.” Echoing the sentiment, another viewer wrote: “So nice to see Rhona and Cain sharing a scene.”
A long-standing romance
Hordley and Henry have two children together: a daughter named Violet, born in 2005, and a son named Stan, born in 2008. Speaking about their relationship on Lorraine in 2022, Zoe said: “We got together at drama school. We've been together 28 years.”
She added: “With the connection on set, we were together for 10 years before that as well. We got together in 1994, I believe.” Jeff also previously recalled their first meeting, telling Soaplife magazine in 2011: “We met at drama school in 1994. I saw Zoe and realised she was the girl for me. I made moves and, fortunately, she said yes on that occasion too.”
Working together on screen
In an interview with OK!, Jeff spoke about sharing emotional scenes with his wife, saying: "We did a scene the other day. We've been in this show for a long time, and we've always been in scenes together in the Woolpack, but we did our first two-hander the other day!"
Zoe also told Inside Soap: "I think we probably both prefer not to work together. Of course, we enjoy each other’s company, yet I think we quite enjoy each other’s independence at work. I don’t know how well Rhona and Cain would get on, either – although I can see why it’s a source of amusement for people if we’re in the same scenes."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
