Robert Kazinsky has confirmed his EastEnders character Sean Slater is set for a dramatic future on the BBC soap, teasing a storyline he describes as "really important and powerful" and "unique and really special" that hasn't been properly shown on screen before.
The 42-year-old returned to Walford on Thursday (October 29) as bad boy Sean and joined Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) in the frantic search for missing Amy Branning (Ellie Dadd), who had run away with groomer Craig Ingram (Matthew James-Bailey).
Sean's Return to Walford
On Monday (November 2), Sean explained that he was back for Zoe Slater's funeral, but his flight was delayed, and he reflected emotionally on how happy he was when Amy was born. Sean said he was desperate to make good on his promise to her mum, Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons), to always look after her daughter, even though he wasn't her dad.
Roxy had led Sean to believe he was Amy's father after romantic liaisons with both him and Jack. It was only after Amy was born that Sean discovered he was not Amy's biological father, and he subsequently found out that Jack was.
Teasing the Future Storyline
On Tuesday (November 3), Robert Kazinsky joined hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard on This Morning to talk about his EastEnders return. When presenter Cat asked Robert what his character Sean has been up to since his brief stint four years ago, he joked: "Well, he's older and fat, and he's had his hair done, but yeah he's been all over the place."
Robert added: "There was a period where he was living in Ibiza and running a bar there, and I think he went to Australia at some point. Then he ended up in Brazil, which has been a story point, where he's been for the last several years, and where Stacey Slater has now gone to stay with him, and he's just left her there."
He continued: "A lot happened in Brazil that we're going to find out about in the future, and the reason why he's back in Walford at all."
A Storyline to Help People
Enquiring more about Sean Slater's forthcoming plot, Cat asked: "So you just talked about the future there, what can you tell us? Obviously, don't tell us the bit that you can't."
Robert confessed: "For a long time we were discussing about coming back, and it never felt quite right for me. Then Ben Wadey came to me with a storyline last year, where it was like, this is what I've always wanted to do, a story I've always wanted to tell, and we sat down, and we talked about it."
He added: "I think it's going to be a really, really important and powerful storyline that's going to help a lot of people. I think it's really unique and really special thing that hasn't been explored properly before. There hasn't been, you know, properly shown on screen to the degree that we're going to do it."
Robert failed to confirm exactly what the storyline was about, but he confirmed: "I think that storyline coming over the next period of time is something that I'm going to, well, with all of this storyline on current issues, we're going to nail and really, really, help a lot of people in the future."
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITVX. EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.
