Max Branning gambled with Amy Mitchell's safety to line his own pockets in EastEnders, as he refrained from telling brother Jack that she is in a relationship with dodgy Craig Ingram. Craig has been grooming local teen Amy for months after meeting her while investigating the attack on Joel Marshall. Jack remains unaware of who his daughter has been seeing, but he has grown concerned about her behaviour and wondered if it had anything to do with her mystery fella.
Max's financial ruin and Cindy's demand
Max is facing financial and emotional ruin after Cindy Beale demanded he pay her £50k in exchange for her silence over his role in leaving Zoe to die. When Amy came to him asking for help in getting her inheritance money, Max was unsure. Upon seeing her get into Craig's car, he resolved to tell Jack of the danger Amy is facing. But with Cindy in his ear about how time is running out to pay up, he instead kept quiet about Amy, agreeing to help her in exchange for the cash to pay Cindy off.
Oscar reveals the truth and Craig speeds off
Following his discussion with Amy, Max meets with Jack and they have a chat. However, their conversation is cut short by Oscar Branning, who reveals that he saw Amy and Craig together – and they're preparing to leave Walford. Horrified, Jack and Max race across the Square – but they're too late as Craig and Amy speed off together. Has Jack finally discovered the truth about Amy? And just how much danger is she truly in? As for Max, is his role in all of this set to be exposed?
Linda's shock and Zoe's funeral preparations
Elsewhere, Linda Carter returns with son Lee, who was unsuccessful in tracking down Jess. But they're in for quite the shock when Jess shows up herself – and exposes Lee's secrets in front of the Carter clan. Linda is horrified and she soon finds evidence to prove that Jess was telling the truth. As tensions escalate, Lee lashes out. Over at the Vic, the Slaters prepare for Zoe's funeral.
