Dougray Scott has described his new Channel 4 thriller, Summerwater, as the 'best thing I've ever done'. The drama, adapted from Sarah Moss's bestselling novel, is set in a Scottish holiday park and unfolds over a single 24-hour period, with each episode told from the perspective of different cabin occupants.
The series follows several families whose simmering tensions lead to a devastating climax. Scott plays David Campbell, a retired doctor who visits the resort with his wife Annie, portrayed by Shirley Henderson. Despite hoping for a relaxing break, David finds himself grappling with his wife's health issues, regret over a past affair, and mounting frustration.
Speaking at a press event, Scott praised the script by John Donnelly, calling it 'extraordinary'. He added: 'It's a sort of stream of consciousness. It's a sort of musing, a sonnet, a poem - it's really quite wonderful.' The actor also revealed a personal connection, as his son Gabriel plays the younger version of his character.
Summerwater premieres tonight (Sunday, November 16) at 9pm on Channel 4.
