Daisy May Cooper has revealed she withdrew from Celebrity Traitors at the last minute, despite initially committing to the BBC reality programme, after three conditions made the experience sound like a "nightmare."
The actress and comedian, known for the sitcom This Country alongside her brother Charlie Cooper, had been lined up for the show's debut series. Speaking to The Independent, the 40-year-old explained that she and Charlie had agreed to appear before growing apprehensive about the conditions they would have to accept.
Three Conditions Behind the U-Turn
Daisy said the first concern was the accommodation. "We panicked. We were going to do it and then they said, 'Basically, you're going to stay in a s*** hotel,' and I thought, 'I don't know if I can do it,'" she said, as reported by the Mirror.
She also revealed she had been told she would not be permitted to speak to her children regularly during the two-week filming period. In addition, she would not be allowed to share a room with her brother, despite the pair having planned to take part together.
Career Highlights and Family Life
Ultimately, the combination of the hotel arrangements, limited contact with her children and separate rooms persuaded the siblings to withdraw. "It just sounded like a f****** nightmare. I thought, 'F*** it. It's not enough money,'" Daisy admitted.
Since This Country debuted in 2017, the show has won a Bafta and Daisy has appeared in two series of Am I Being Unreasonable?, with a third in development, as well as Sky's Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Avenue 5, Celebrity Gogglebox and The Masked Singer. She is raising three children under the age of eight with her former husband and current partner, DJ Anthony Huggins.
Latest Series Cliffhanger
Daisy said she was particularly keen to return to another comedy favourite, Last One Laughing, recalling: "Whatever is on, f****** clear my diary."
The latest series of Celebrity Traitors ended Friday night's episode on a cliffhanger after actress Sharon Rooney and comedian Joanne McNally received the same number of votes at the roundtable, leaving both at risk of banishment. The deciding vote belonged to content creator King Kenny, who had been granted a double vote after receiving a dagger during a mission for being considered one of the most trusted players.
Viewers were left waiting to discover which contestant would be eliminated, with the episode ending before Kenny's decision was revealed. The other players considered among the most trusted were Traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster.
