Corrie: Tyrone punches Chesney after Ross goads him

In the October 26 episode of Coronation Street, Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) punched Chesney Winter-Brown (Sam Aston) after being goaded by his father Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield). The violent outburst came after weeks of Ross attempting to push his toxic views on masculinity onto Tyrone.

Ross's Influence on Tyrone

Ross had bought boxing gloves and encouraged Tyrone's son Dorin to try them, but when Dorin was not keen, Ross forced Tyrone to glove up instead. The situation was uncomfortable, as fighting is clearly not something Tyrone does.

Earlier, when Tyrone's daughter Ruby (Billie Naylor) expressed interest in joining a boxing club, Tyrone said he did not want her getting hurt. Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) and Hope (Isabella Flanagan) immediately called Tyrone out, accusing him of being sexist.

The Punch

In the episode, Tyrone discovered that Dorin had a bruise from Aled, Chesney's son, hitting him. Ross wanted Fiz to confront Chesney, believing that if he did not sort things out with Aled, the boy would turn violent. Instead, Tyrone marched over to see Chesney himself, stating he would no longer let Dorin play with Aled.

When Ross arrived, he goaded Tyrone, telling him not to roll over and let Chesney speak to him however he wanted. Tyrone then punched Chesney in the face.

Aftermath

Fiz was devastated and horrified, not wanting to be near Tyrone. This gave him the opportunity to head to the pub with Ross, where he was subjected to more of his father's outdated comments.

When Fiz appeared, Tyrone tried to go after her but was stopped by Ross, who argued, 'You're the boss. Not Fiz, or anyone else.' Tyrone agreed, and as he clinked his glass with his dad's, he looked convinced that Ross was the only person on his side.
