Coronation Street actors Tony Maudsley and Amy Robbins have enjoyed a heartfelt reunion with two of their former co-stars, 20 years after they appeared together in the ITV medical drama The Royal.
Fans of the Salford-filmed soap know the pair for playing Weatherfield couple George Shuttleworth and Christina Boyd. Tony, also known for his role in Benidorm, joined the cobbles in 2020, with George revealed as the son of Archie Shuttleworth, who runs Shuttleworth's Independent Funeral Directors on Tile Street. Amy reprised the role of Christina in Weatherfield last summer, after the character was last seen earlier in 2025 following a fallout with her daughter Daisy Midgeley, who fled to Bali.
Christina left the street in the aftermath of events involving Daisy and her former step-mother Jenny Connor, but returned in August, much to Jenny's dismay, before booking a one-way ticket to Spain. This paved the way for George and Christina to grow closer, leading to a relationship that has become popular with fans, and allowed Tony and Amy to work together after more than 20 years of friendship.
Friends for 25 Years
"We've been friends for 25 years," Amy previously told the Metro. "I first met him on a film called My Beautiful Son, which we made with Julie Walters, and we stayed in touch for all these years. It was lovely when they put our two characters together."
Before that film, both had starred in ITV's The Royal, a medical drama that aired from 2003 until its cancellation in 2011. Set in the 1960s, it focused on the staff at the fictional St Aidan's Royal Free Hospital, serving the rural seaside town of Elsinby. Amy played Dr Jill Weatherill, a GP and advocate of maternal medicine, while Tony guest-starred as Jimmy Beattie.
