Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) displayed his violent side in front of his son Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) during Monday's episode of Coronation Street. The ITV soap storyline, which has hinted that Ross may have been involved in the disappearance of Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), took a darker turn as Ross encouraged Tyrone to box.
Ross's Toxic Masculinity on Display
Earlier this year, viewers were left on edge when it was suggested that Ross potentially killed Cassie. During her final scenes, she had a showdown with Ross in his car. Since her departure, no one knows if she is safe, as she was never seen getting on her train.
Tyrone, convinced his mum wants nothing to do with his family, has allowed Ross to take on the grandparent role. A few weeks ago, Ross spent time with Tyrone's young son Dorin, who was playing with a doll. Ross took the toy and threw it behind him, telling Dorin that little boys don't play with dolls and that being 'soft' would make him turn out like his dad.
Boxing Scene Turns Violent
In today's episode, Ross presented Dorin with boxing gloves and encouraged him to have a go, but the youngster wasn't keen. Ross then turned his attention to Tyrone, who also hated throwing punches. Ross encouraged Tyrone to put more effort in but got too passionate and very nearly punched his son in the face.
Tyrone was visibly uncomfortable and distracted himself by focusing on the family dinner.
Ross's Influence Continues
Ross's influence over Tyrone will continue this week. When Ruby (Billie Naylor) expresses an interest in boxing, Tyrone initially says it isn't for girls, but Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) calls him out for sexism until he backs down and agrees Ruby can attend a club.
In the pub, Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) texts Tyrone asking him to pick up snacks for their film night. Ross tells him to ignore the message, takes his phone, and encourages Tyrone to have another drink. Fiz has previously made it clear she isn't Ross's fan, and the question remains how she will react when she discovers he stopped Tyrone from spending time with her.
