Coronation Street fans were quick to have their say as they branded some of the latest scenes in Betsy Swain's recovery story as 'painful' as her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, lost it.
It's been an emotionally testing time for the Connor-Swains, as just as things appeared to be on the up for the family, teenager Betsy suffered a major health scare.
As viewers saw, Betsy was rushed to the hospital in scenes aired in the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, last month after being found collapsed on the floor at her home, No.6 Coronation Street, by Ryan Connor, where it was confirmed by doctors that Betsy had suffered a stroke.
Betsy's second stroke and cause revealed
The news left her mums, Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain, in disbelief due to her being just 18 years of age. And horror struck again when her condition appeared to stabilise, Betsy had a second stroke.
Doctors later confirmed the strokes were caused by a blood clot, which was the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation. It was after this that Betsy had to explain to her mum that her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson, had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
Dylan's visit sparks confrontation
Betsy was later told it was possible that she would make a "good recovery", but she was busy pleading with her mum, aka DS Connor-Swain, to leave Dylan alone, after she reported him to the police and could have faced charges if Betsy decided to give the police a statement, which she didn't.
Dylan has since stayed away from Betsy, but following her release from the hospital last week, during Monday's (August 3) edition of Corrie, Betsy was seen talking to Ryan, and expressed wanting to speak to her boyfriend, but knows her mum won't be happy. Wanting to help Betsy, Ryan summoned Dylan to No.6, where Betsy tried to reassure him that she doesn't blame him for what has happened.
However, the pair were unexpectedly interrupted by Lisa's return, who was quick to lose it and demand Dylan leave the house. As he scurried off, Ryan headed downstairs and told Lisa it was him who got Dylan to visit, much to Lisa's disbelief. As she railed at home for allowing Dylan into their home, Ryan suggested Lisa listen to what Betsy wants.
Emotional scenes leave fans in praise
As Lisa fired back, Betsy ended up shouting for her mum to stop. As she rushed to Betsy, the teen pushed her mum away, with the detective left apologising as she cried into her daughter's lap.
And the scenes left Corrie fans emotional for the family's turmoil, and full of praise for Vicky Myers, who plays Lisa, for her portrayal of the worried and fiercely protective mother.
@eternitydropped said: "Ryan doing what's best for Betsy. Lisa being able to see past her anger. Lisa pushing Ryan away because of it. Betsy physically pushing Lisa away. Lisa breaking down. Oh that was painful #Corrie."
@sadlatimer commented: "This is so heartbreaking tho… Lisa so clouded by anger bc her little girl’s been hurt in a life changing way (accidentally) by Dylan, Ryan, and Lisa clashing, Betsy fighting to try and speak up and then pushing Lisa away… the grovelling apology."
@TheConnorSwains wrote: "The emotional range of @VixMyers is unreal, she goes from calm to explosive rage to complete heartbreak so effortlessly. Ryan’s performance is absolutely spot on. And @sydneymartin_x… I’ve genuinely run out of superlatives. Flawless performances! #Swarla #Corrie."
@LadyReignFC shared: "I can understand Lisa's reaction but she has to listen to Betsy. Absolutely stunning scenes from the Connor-Swains today though. You can still see the Betsy we've known but also how restricted she is now. Lisa & Ryan's argument was #corrie #swarla."
@Izzy1728047 posted: "Those repeated “I’m sorry’s” from Lisa after Betsy shouts 'mum stop it!' Really shows Lisa snapping out of that anger & regret across her face. It was such an amazing scene. Sydney & Vicky really shine in a scene together when it’s mother & daughter heavy #Swarla #Corrie."
@thealwaystired added: "The way Lisa breaks down in the end hurts so bad. You can see how she's still trying to find some way to transform her bone-deep fear for Betsy into a way to keep her safe, and everytime she has to realise she's hurting Besty in the process. This is so hard..#swarla #corrie."
