Coronation Street fans have expressed their disappointment after Gary Windass was sentenced to eight months in prison for perverting the course of justice in connection with the murder of Theo Silverton. Viewers took to social media to share their confusion and upset over the decision, with many calling it 'unfair'.
Gary received his sentence during Tuesday's (October 20) episode of the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford. The sentencing came after Sarah Platt was acquitted of the abusive builder's murder on the grounds of self-defence.
Fans React to Gary's Sentence
While Gary went to prison, viewers saw a furious Maria taking matters into her own hands in a dramatic Bistro showdown, shoving a Manchester tart into Sarah's face. When Bethany and Todd intervened, Maria pushed them aside, knocking Bethany, who is pregnant, to the floor and injuring her wrist.
Later, an emotional phone call saw Gary urge Maria to stay strong for their family, leaving Maria vowing to stand by her husband. But Corrie fans were left flocking to social media to share their confusion and express their upset at his imprisonment.
Viewers Question the Verdict
@LadyReignFC said: "I need to see how Gary was found guilty of getting rid of a weapon they haven't found for a murder they've found not murder but self defense. And how was Sarah allowed to used the defense that it wasn't a murder weapon so she never got rid of it but Gary couldn't? #corrie."
@madjevs commented: "Make that make sense Sarah gets off for killing someone (was not self defence) Gary gets jail time??? Sarah did way worse btw!"
@sam_Fletcher78 wrote: "Can’t understand how Gary got 8 months for perverting the course of justice, yet Sarah walked away. Doesn’t seem right, that Sarah didn’t get done for the same offence or even explaining what happened to the weapon. #corrie."
@Audz32129841 noted: "I get that Sarah got not guilty for killing Theo it was self defence but what about not reporting it, getting Gary to help cover up, letting Summer get locked up, lying in interview etc #Corrie."
