Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King) has made a devastating announcement in Coronation Street, declaring it is the end for Underworld after sabotage leaves the factory flooded and ruined.
Sabotage at the factory
Last week, Idris Nazir (Junade Khan), who had made clear his interest in buying Underworld, attempted to sabotage a meeting between Carla and Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell). Idris told businessman Philip that Carla was not to be trusted, and as a result Philip backed out of the deal, leaving Underworld hanging by a thread.
In today's episode, Carla realised she would not be able to give her staff a Christmas bonus this year. As she told Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) about the factory's money troubles, she failed to spot Idris listening into the conversation.
Flooding and ruin
Sensing his plan was about to become a success, Idris told Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) to sneak into the factory and set off the sprinkler system. Moments later, Carla and Lisa rushed across the road to find water pouring from the factory doors.
Inside, an absolutely broken Carla surveyed the mess before her. All of the equipment was drenched, the clothes were ruined, and there was nothing she could do to save Underworld. This leaves Carla with no choice but to consider selling to Idris.
Idris's campaign
At the moment, Brody does not know that Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) saw him sneaking into the factory. If it becomes clear that Idris's tactics are the reason Carla is saying goodbye to her business, Leanne may expose her boyfriend.
Over the past few weeks, Idris has made it known that he is determined to take over businesses in Weatherfield. His most recent victim was his own cousin, Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), who he manipulated into handing him majority share control of Speed Daal by revealing he is actually her uncle. He then destroyed the reputation of the Bistro with a series of fake reviews in an attempt to buy the business from Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) at the lowest possible price.
