Coronation Street fans have expressed outrage over what they describe as a 'totally unrealistic' blunder involving character Jodie Ramsay. Viewers took to social media to complain that a police interview scene defied logic and common sense, with one fan declaring 'viewers deserve better.'
Plot Hole Sparks Fan Fury
During the Tuesday, June 30 episode, Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) had just pieced together that Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances-Brown) was her attacker from the night of Theo Silverton's murder. As Sarah moved to confront Jodie, police officer Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) arrived with fresh questions about the assault. In a scene that left viewers baffled, Lisa proceeded to interview Sarah in the Platt household while Jodie busied herself making tea in the same room, eavesdropping on the entire exchange.
Despite harbouring suspicions about Jodie, Sarah chose to maintain to Lisa that she remained unaware of who had attacked her, creating a tense but implausible scenario.
Fans React: 'Totally Unrealistic'
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers were swift to voice their frustration. One fan wrote: 'Surely Lisa couldn't interview Sarah with Jodie there, it's getting ridiculous.' Another commented: 'I thought that too, soooo awkward! I'm quite sure a police interview would be private and confidential even when it's not at the station.' A third viewer simply stated: 'Totally unrealistic.'
Sharing similar sentiments, another agreed: 'My thoughts exactly!' A fifth added: 'Susan Bray 100 per cent terrible mistakes the viewers could do better.' The backlash highlights a growing dissatisfaction among fans with what they perceive as careless writing.
Jodie Ramsay's Troubled Character
Jodie made her debut in January during the Corriedale crossover episode before arriving in Weatherfield, where she revealed herself as the long-lost half-sister of Shona Platt (Julia Goulding). Since settling into life on the cobbles, Jodie has been no stranger to controversy. Alongside attempts to seduce her brother-in-law David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd), she has also pilfered numerous items from fellow residents. In April, she launched an attack on Sarah on the night of Theo Silverton's murder, which Sarah has only now deduced.
Actress Olivia Frances-Brown recently discussed her character's nature, explaining: 'Trouble follows her around like a bad smell. She is always caught up in the chaos. Whatever's going on, if there is any chaos in the street, she'll probably be at the heart of it. It's the way that she is. It's who she is. It's the way she has learnt to deal with things. It's the way she goes through life.'
Ongoing Storyline
As the storyline unfolds, Sarah now knows Jodie attacked her but has yet to act on that knowledge. The police interview blunder has added fuel to fan criticism, with many questioning the show's attention to detail. Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
