Coronation Street fans predict Kate Connor will take over Underworld

Coronation Street viewers are convinced they have worked out who will become the new owner of Underworld, and it is not Idris Nazir. Fans believe Kate Connor, the half-sister of current owner Carla Connor, will return to take over the factory.

Underworld has been a cornerstone of the ITV soap since 1997, originally founded by Mike Baldwin. Carla Connor, played by Alison King, has managed operations since 2007. Over the years, many recognisable characters have worked there, including Hayley Cropper, Emily Bishop and Janice Battersby. Current machinists include Izzy Armstrong, Betsy Swain and Fiz Brown.

Underworld in turmoil

Underworld has recently been thrown into turmoil as Carla risks losing the business. In Thursday's episode, Idris Nazir revealed to Leanne his intention to purchase the factory, but Leanne cautioned that Carla will refuse to part with it.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers speculated about a comeback. "I think it could be Kate who saves the factory," suggested one viewer. Another agreed: "Yes Kate!" A third added: "Can we please get a Kate Connor return!" A fourth wrote: "Kate to return to help Carla and save Underworld!"

Kate Connor's history

Kate arrived on the cobbles in 2015 as the sister of Aidan and half-sister of Carla. Her stint included Aidan's tragic death and her romance with Rana Nazir. In 2019, Rana died when the Underworld factory roof collapsed, and Kate later left the street to travel across the Far East, with her final appearance broadcast on September 13, 2019.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
