Clare Balding's Celebrity Traitors Nightmare: 'I Was So Bad They Asked Me To Leave'
Clare Balding: Kicked Off Celebrity Traitors For Bad Lying

BBC broadcasting legend Clare Balding has confessed she was such an abysmal liar on Celebrity Traitors that producers had to show her the exit door after just one day of filming.

The beloved sports presenter, known for her honest and straightforward presenting style, revealed her spectacular failure during an appearance on The One Show, leaving co-hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp in stitches.

'My Lying Was So Terrible'

"I was so bad at lying they asked me to leave," Balding admitted with characteristic good humour. "I went on Celebrity Traitors and my lying was so terrible that after one day they said, 'Clare, we're really grateful, thank you so much, but you're going to have to go.'"

The 53-year-old presenter, who fronts Wimbledon coverage and the Olympics for the BBC, explained that her inability to deceive others proved fatal in the high-stakes game of detection and deception.

Not Cut Out For Deception

Balding's honest nature, which has made her one of British television's most trusted faces, ultimately proved to be her downfall in the psychological gameshow format. The Celebrity Traitors series features famous faces competing in challenges while hidden "Traitors" work to eliminate the "Faithful" contestants without detection.

"I'm just not a good enough liar," she conceded, though she maintained she enjoyed the experience despite her premature departure from the competition.

Returning to Familiar Territory

While Traitors didn't work out, Balding remains busy with her regular presenting duties. She's currently preparing to helm the BBC's coverage of Wimbledon 2024, where her straightforward approach will undoubtedly serve her better than it did in the treacherous Traitors castle.

The full Celebrity Traitors series is available for streaming on BBC iPlayer, though viewers won't see much of Balding's brief appearance given her early exit from the competition.
