The Celebrity Traitors returns tomorrow night after last Friday's episode ended on a cliffhanger. In the most recent episode, Traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster recruited King Kenny to their crew, following the banishment of Traitor Hannah Fry at the Round Table.
Traitors face first murder in plain sight
Just hours into Kenny's new role, the Traitors were tasked with performing their first murder in plain sight. The trio gathered in one room in the Scottish Highlands Castle, tasked with the secret mission of 'boring someone to death'. To complete the murder, they must get one of the Faithful to willingly yawn and then say: "Am I boring you?"
After Kenny sprayed the perfume of death, they waited for co-stars to naturally join them. Ross Kemp and Jerry Hall unwillingly walked into their death trap. In a bid to get either of them to yawn, Maya's tactics included telling boring stories and yawning herself to see if it would make them compulsively do it back.
Former star predicts historic failure
However, former Traitors star Paul Gorton, who appeared on the second series of the BBC show, believes the trio will have failed in their Traitorous mission. If so, it will be the first time the Traitors have failed at a murder in plain sight in the show's history.
Speaking to BetWright Casino, Gorton said: "So, they’ve got to get someone to yawn and then say, “am I boring you?”, which is fine if James says it, because he’s a comedian.
"However, I think it might be the first ever failure of a murder in plain sight. I don’t think there’s been one before, so Thursday night’s episode should be super interesting."
Why the mission may fail
Explaining why he thinks they will have failed in their mission, he said: "In normal life you’re comfortable enough with someone that your body language mirrors theirs. If someone pulls their ear or wipes their nose, the other does the same thing as you, it shows they’re engaged.
"That doesn’t exist in the castle, because in the back of your brain, you’re always thinking, “how am I coming across? How are they reading me? How should I be reading them? This is weird. Why am I here?”
"You’re also not tired in that castle, so yawning is a tough challenge. I wasn’t tired until I got home, because I was buzzing, electric, and always on high alert - and I think a lot of them might be the same."
Gorton's theory may be especially true for Ross Kemp, who has been particularly paranoid and second guessing other people's behaviour since entering the castle. However, Jerry, who was recently branded as the player with her 'head in the clouds', may fall victim.
Viewers can tune in tomorrow to find out if Maya, James and Kenny were successful in their murder in plain sight mission or whether they have fumbled the opportunity.
