Callum Woodhouse, the beloved star of hit series All Creatures Great and Small and The Durrells, has shared a delightful and unexpected secret from the set of the heartwarming Channel 5 drama. In a candid new interview, the actor pointed the finger at a surprising culprit for the most hilarious off-camera antics.
While fans might imagine the cast of the Yorkshire Dales-based veterinary series sharing witty banter, Woodhouse claims the real scene-stealer was of the four-legged variety. The actor, who plays Tristan Farnon, revealed that it was none other than a canine co-star who provided the most memorable and mischievous moments during filming.
Paws for Thought: The Real Star of the Show
Woodhouse explained that the dog, whose character is a regular fixture in the fictional town of Darrowby, had a personality far bigger than his role. The animal actor's unpredictable behaviour and playful nature often had the human cast in stitches, breaking the tension during long shooting days.
"You'd be in the middle of a very serious scene, and he'd just decide to do something completely absurd," Woodhouse chuckled. "It was impossible to keep a straight face. He definitely knew he was the centre of attention."
From The Durrells to Darrowby
The interview also touched on Woodhouse's transition from playing Leslie Durrell in the sun-drenched ITV drama The Durrells to the more rugged landscape of All Creatures Great and Small. He contrasted the two experiences, highlighting the very different challenges of filming in Corfu versus the British countryside.
Despite the change in climate and tone, Woodhouse expressed his deep affection for both projects, noting that they share a common thread of celebrating life, family, and of course, animals. His latest revelation only adds to the charm of the much-loved series, which has been recommissioned for new seasons.
