BTS signs Netflix deal for comeback concert and documentary

K-pop supergroup BTS have signed a deal with Netflix to livestream their first comeback concert and release a documentary about their return. The outdoor concert in Seoul's historic Gwanghwamun Square will be broadcast on Netflix on 21 March, a day after the release of their new album, Arirang.

The concert marks the group's first full performance since completing mandatory military service, which began in 2022. The show will feature live debuts of tracks from the new album alongside hits from their discography. Hamish Hamilton, known for directing Super Bowl halftime shows, will direct the broadcast, which is the first live event from South Korea to be streamed globally on Netflix.

A week later, Netflix will release the documentary BTS: The Return, directed by Bao Nguyen, following the seven members as they create new music and prepare for the concert. The film covers recording sessions and full-scale rehearsals.

BTS's comeback includes an 82-show world tour across 34 cities in 23 countries from April 2026 to March 2027, their first full tour since the pandemic. Demand has been so high in Mexico that President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote to the South Korean prime minister requesting extra dates.

Industry estimates project BTS will generate over $1bn in revenue from their comeback through ticket sales, merchandise, album purchases, licensing and streaming. During their hiatus, members pursued solo projects, including tours by Suga, J-Hope and Jin, and solo albums from RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook.
