Bradley Walsh Breaks Silence on Strictly Come Dancing Hosting Rumours
Bradley Walsh finally addresses Strictly Come Dancing rumours

Bradley Walsh has publicly addressed the swirling rumours that he is in the running to become a host of Strictly Come Dancing. The speculation began after long-standing presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced their departure from the BBC show in October 2025.

Walsh's Cryptic Radio Comments

Appearing on Scott Mills' BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Friday, the 65-year-old Chase star was pressed on the topic by fellow guest Denise Welch. Walsh initially suggested that taking the role might 'ruin your weekend', as he enjoys watching the show in his free time. However, he was quickly called out for his evasive answer.

'The trouble is, because he's got that twinkle, I never believe Bradley Walsh whatever he says,' Denise Welch remarked. 'So that could be a long-winded version of him saying I'm doing it.'

Host Scott Mills then claimed he had overheard Walsh telling a team member that 'it's definitely him and Alex Jones' for the hosting job. Walsh responded by revealing he was due to see Alex Jones, presenter of The One Show, later that same day, describing the timing as a coincidence.

'A Great Gig' But A Big Commitment

Despite the playful banter, Bradley Walsh later struck a more serious tone. He stated he has 'absolutely no idea' about the truth behind the rumours. He acknowledged the appeal of the role but emphasised the scale of the commitment.

'I think it's a big old commitment, I really do,' Walsh said. 'It's a few Fridays and Saturdays, it's a great gig, it's a great show.'

He also shared a unique insider's perspective, noting that his ITV quiz show The Chase is filmed in a studio next door to where Strictly rehearsals take place. 'On a Friday, I can literally walk next door and have a sneaky look at some of the rehearsals going on,' he admitted.

BBC Confirms No Decision Until 2026

While names like Bradley Walsh and Alex Jones continue to be linked to the vacant roles, the BBC has confirmed that no official process has begun. Kate Phillips, the BBC's Chief Content Officer, recently stated that the production team is entirely focused on delivering the current series.

Speaking on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, Phillips said, 'We haven't got time at the moment to start doing any screen tests or chemistry testing. I don't think we'll really be looking at it until the New Year.'

This means any formal announcements regarding the new Strictly Come Dancing presenting lineup are unlikely before 2026. For now, Bradley Walsh remains focused on his existing presenting duties for ITV and the BBC.
