BBC has confirmed that Richard Dormer will reprise his role as Gerry Cliff in the upcoming fourth season of the hit police drama Blue Lights, despite his character being killed off in the first series. The announcement has left fans stunned and questioning how the return is possible.
Gerry Cliff, a former police officer, died while on duty in season one, making his resurrection a major twist. The BBC has teased that the new season will delve into "a lot of dark secrets" and answer important questions from the past, suggesting flashbacks or revelations about his death.
BBC Drama Commissioning Editor Nick Lambon expressed excitement about Dormer's return, stating: "Gerry Cliff was such an integral part of series one so to have Richard Dormer back alongside our talented cast is a dream come true." The six-part series will also see the return of familiar faces including Siân Brooke, Martin McCann, and Katherine Devlin.
Fans took to social media to share their shock, with one writing: "How is this possible," while another speculated: "In some kind of flashback episode?" Co-creators Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson promised an action-packed story that "ties together the past, present, and futures of Grace, Annie and Tommy."
The new season will begin filming in Belfast soon, with a synopsis revealing that three years into their jobs, the constables face a new threat and the murder trial of Gerry Cliff exposes a dangerous secret leading to chaos both inside the police and across the criminal underworld.
