Doonbank House Care Home near Patna has been praised for its care provision following an unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate. The scrutiny body graded the home 'very good' across three quality indicators and 'good' across two others.
Inspection findings
The inspection took place in July, with findings now published. The report highlighted that people experienced "warm, compassionate care" from staff who "knew them well" and responded to their individual needs. Residents' health, wellbeing, and quality of life were supported through "meaningful relationships, appropriate healthcare involvement and access to activities."
Staff worked in partnership with people and their families, promoting "choice, dignity and involvement" in decision-making. The service also benefited from "committed leadership" and a "culture of continuous improvement," with quality assurance processes supporting "positive outcomes." The environment was described as "clean, homely, and supportive of orientation and wayfinding."
Areas for improvement
However, the report noted that further work "was needed" in some areas of care planning and documentation to ensure practice was "consistent" and "fully considered" people's needs and experiences.
An extract from the report states: "We found significant strengths in aspects of the care provided and how these supported positive outcomes for people. Staff knew people well and provided warm, compassionate and person-centred support. Positive relationships and a good understanding of people's preferences, needs and choices helped people experience care that enhanced their quality of life and wellbeing."
Ratings and management
Medicines were "managed safely," with "robust systems in place" to support good practice and reduce risk. "Effective arrangements" were also in place to safeguard people's finances. Leadership, setting, and planned care and support were all graded 'very good,' while the staff team and the home's ability to support wellbeing were graded 'good.'
The report adds: "A comprehensive improvement plan supported the ongoing development of the service. This was complemented by effective local and organisational governance systems which promoted accountability, supported good practice and ensured improvement activity was monitored and progressed."
