A former contestant on ITV's Tipping Point has shared his experience on the show, revealing what host Ben Shephard is really like when the cameras stop rolling. Ross Lannon, a radio presenter and disability blogger from Cornwall, appeared on the game show in April 2022, though the episode only aired over two years later.
Writing on his blog, A Life On Wheels, Lannon described the experience as 'amazing' and praised the production team for their friendliness and accommodating his needs as a wheelchair user. He noted that staff allowed him a practice run with the buzzer due to his muscle weakness, and ITV covered his travel and hotel costs.
Of Shephard, Lannon gave a glowing review, saying: 'Ben Shepherd was really friendly on and off camera.' The host's off-screen demeanour matched his on-screen persona, according to the contestant.
Although Lannon did not win the episode, he secured a 'mystery prize' — a six-month home cocktail subscription from The Cocktail Man. He found the prize comical as he does not drink, but said his sister was happy to receive it.
Lannon applied for the show as a 'joke' and was surprised to be called back after several rounds of interviews and tests. He said he would 'do it again in a heartbeat' and enjoyed seeing how the show worked behind the scenes.
