The BBC has officially unveiled its latest television project, a sci-fi thriller titled Sutherland, which promises to deliver a mesmerising narrative blending elements of mystery, space exploration, and Scottish landscapes. The series will feature an acclaimed cast led by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, renowned for her roles in Disney+ hits like Loki and The Girl Before.
Plot and Setting: A Tale of Mystery and Discovery
Sutherland is set in the near future in the remote region of Sutherland, located in the far north of Scotland. The story centres on Mirren, portrayed by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who works as a flight director at the Paravel Space Hub. She is overseeing the UK's inaugural crewed mission to the stars when, just hours after launch, a series of unexplained events throws her world into chaos.
The synopsis reveals that as a decades-old conspiracy begins to resurface, local detective Logan, played by Stuart Martin, is drawn back into Mirren's orbit. Their investigations and mission threaten to unravel, forcing them to join forces and make an extraordinary discovery that will alter their lives forever.

A full cast list is yet to be announced, but the series is produced by World Productions, the team behind the acclaimed drama Vigil. The writer, James Smythe, known for All Her Fault, described creating the show for the BBC as a lifelong dream.
