BBC Viewers Urged to Watch Better Date Than Never

BBC audiences are discovering a 'kind' dating reality programme from the team behind Love On The Spectrum, called Better Date Than Never.

Series from Love On The Spectrum Creator

Cian O'Clery, director and co-creator of the original Netflix programme and its American counterpart, has delivered another series that enthusiasts are watching in large volumes. Better Date Than Never is a character-driven docuseries featuring a varied collection of individuals searching for romance, with a film crew documenting them as they venture into dating.

Two complete seasons are available, both streaming free on BBC iPlayer. The second instalment recently became accessible to British audiences. The programme is based and made in Australia, but UK viewers have instantly fallen for its participants and concept.

Alternative to Love Island

Numerous people commend it as an alternative to programmes like Love Island, or a soothing companion programme during breaks between Love on the Spectrum seasons, reports OK!. When instalments first appeared on BBC iPlayer, O'Clery told the broadcaster they aimed to eliminate competitive or knockout aspects featured in other dating programmes.

He said: "After making multiple seasons of Love On The Spectrum, I wanted to find a way to represent a broader range of people, still within the space of a positive show. We are never looking to dial up any sort of negativity or conflict, we care about our cast and want the best for them."

He added: "I've been keen to see shows that feature a more diverse group of love-seekers. A lot of the shows out there are populated by a certain type of person, and I was keen to see less Instagram models on islands!"

Fan Reactions

Fans have voiced opinions on the programme, with many urging anyone who enjoyed Love on the Spectrum to watch it. One viewer posted: "I just love the lack of filter in these shows, they are so pure. And it makes me so emotional because it gives me hope." Another wrote: "I watched it all in one day, loved the series."

One viewer appeared surprised at how quickly they got through it, saying: "I'm not usually a binger on principal, but it gave me so much joy I couldn't stop watching! I binged both seasons in 3 days." Several others expressed fondness for cast members. One viewer reflected: "Nirvali is absolutely stunning, I actually choked back tears a little bit hearing her first song. Such talent and relatable lyrics. Charles was so funny and his reactions and expressions were so pure, I couldn't help but smile."

With each series containing just six episodes, many viewers want more. One fan admitted: "I could watch literally 1,000 episodes and it wouldn't be enough." Another commented: "I just finished the series a few days ago and I keep thinking I have more and getting excited to watch another episode." Better Date Than Never is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
