BBC unveils Welsh ghost drama The Witch Farm

The BBC has shared a first look at The Witch Farm, a new four-part ghost story filmed and set in the Welsh countryside, starring Gabrielle Creevy (The Guest, Black Doves) and Michael Socha (The Cage, Showtrial). The series is set in 1989 and will debut on November 22.

The South Wales-set drama follows Bill (Socha), Liz (Creevy) and their teenage son Jonathan as they leave London for Heol Fanog, a remote modern farmhouse in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, keen for a fresh start. The BBC teased: "At first, the isolation feels like freedom. But when frightening, inexplicable things begin to happen around the house and a strange figure begins to appear, the family starts to feel increasingly scared."

What to Expect from The Witch Farm

The BBC added: "What follows is a steady escalation of the chillingly uncanny - unexplained disturbances and an unsettling sense that they are not alone. As Bill and Liz begin to investigate, the house draws them deeper into a history that refuses to stay buried. And as the land yields its secrets, so too does their marriage - testing the limits of trust, belief, and what they're willing to deny in order to survive."

The series also stars Lewin Lloyd (His Dark Materials), Sian Gibson (Peter Kay's Car Share), Robert Pugh (Game of Thrones), Jeremy Swift (Downton Abbey), Edward Holcroft (Industry), Suzanne Packer (The Bay), and Roger Evans (House of the Dragon).

Release Schedule and Creator's Insight

The Witch Farm begins at 9pm on November 22 with episode two airing on November 23. BBC One will then air episodes three and four on November 29 and 30 respectively. The series is written by Danny Robins, creator of the West End phenomenon 2:22 - A Ghost Story, who introduced viewers to an eerie clip from the series.

He shared: "You might remember that I made a podcast series called The Witch Farm, which told the story of a real-life haunting in Wales. You might also know that I've spent quite a lot of the last year adapting it into a TV drama." The clip showed Liz in the dark as she calls for her son Jonathan, hearing the eerie sound of footsteps nearby. As a door creaks, she calls for her husband Bill, but no one replies. As she moves forward to investigate the sounds, the screen fades to black.

Viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts, with one saying: "Ooh, cannot wait! Huge congrats on this series Danny. The podcast was brilliant - such a great idea to make a dramatised version of this chilling story. It will be a huge hit, I'm sure!" Another added: "Yay!! I loved The Witch Farm podcast—this looks so creepy!" A third shared: "OMG -nothing happened and I was already scared - in DAYLIGHT. Not sure if I can watch it if this is the case now."

Filming took place in the spring of 2026 in Swansea, with locations used including Swansea Museum as well as Swansea Guildhall and Civic Centre. The Witch Farm premieres on November 22 on BBC iPlayer, BBC One and BBC One Wales.
