BBC Reminds Gethin Jones of Guidelines After On-Air Breach

BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones has been formally reminded of the broadcaster's editorial guidelines after wearing watches from Clogau, a jewellery brand he promotes, while on air. The 48-year-old Welsh presenter, who has co-hosted the daily magazine programme for over five years alongside Helen Skelton and Michelle Ackerley, is a longstanding ambassador for Clogau and has appeared in multiple promotional campaigns for the company.

Breach of BBC Rules

The Mail on Sunday reported that Jones wore several Clogau timepieces during broadcasts over the past eight months, including a £550 model with a stainless-steel case and black bezel, a £420 watch with gold plating and a black leather strap, and a stainless-steel watch with a textured black dial. BBC guidelines state that presenters 'must not appear on-air wearing clothing or using products or services which they have been contracted to promote'. A BBC Studios spokesperson told The Mirror: 'We have clear guidelines around presenters' commercial activities while working with the BBC, and Gethin has been reminded of these guidelines.'

Previous Similar Incidents

Jones is not the first BBC personality to face such a reprimand. Last month, Gardeners' World presenter Monty Don, 70, was reminded of the guidelines after appearing in a £300 Barbour jacket while filming, having previously featured in an advertising campaign for the brand. The BBC issued an identical statement at the time, confirming Don had been reminded of the rules.

Jones' Role at Morning Live

Jones, a former Blue Peter host, has been a co-host of Morning Live since its launch in 2020, winning over audiences with his approachable style. He also serves as an ambassador for Clogau, a Welsh heritage jewellery brand, and has promoted their products alongside model Nikki Chislett, who appeared as his on-screen 'wife' in a Christmas campaign. The BBC's guidelines aim to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure impartiality. Morning Live airs weekdays at 9:30 am on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
