BBC Marks The Office 25 Years with Crook and Freeman Reunion

The BBC has confirmed a special edition of its programme Remembers to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the groundbreaking comedy The Office. The episode will reunite stars Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman, who played Gareth Keenan and Tim Canterbury respectively in the original UK series.

Reunion Details and Airdate

The special, titled Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman Remember... The Office, will air on Wednesday, July 8 at 10pm on BBC Two and iPlayer. According to the BBC, the duo will “look back at the groundbreaking series, sharing personal memories and behind the scenes stories.” This marks the first time the actors have appeared together for a dedicated retrospective in over 15 years.

Memories and Anecdotes

A synopsis for the reunion reveals that Crook and Freeman will discuss a range of topics, including how Martin initially auditioned to play Gareth, how Mackenzie embraced one of TV's worst-ever haircuts, and how Ricky Gervais came close to ruining filming on a daily basis. They will also share what it was like to be at the heart of “Office-mania” when the show was at its peak, and offer their views on the American version of the show and some of their personal favourite Wernham Hogg moments.

Legacy of The Office

The Office first aired in July 2001, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. It became a massive success, running for two series and a Christmas special, with a one-off short in 2013. The show inspired a hugely popular US adaptation starring Steve Carell and John Krasinski, which ran from 2005 to 2013 across nine series. The UK version remains a cultural touchstone, known for its cringe comedy and documentary-style format.
