BBC Confirms No New Pointless Celebrities in 2026

The BBC has confirmed that there are no plans to broadcast any new episodes of Pointless Celebrities for the remainder of 2026, delivering disappointing news for fans of the popular quiz show spin-off.

No Celebrity Editions This Year

Speculation had been rife that the broadcaster had decided to discontinue the celebrity offshoot of the long-running hit Pointless, which is hosted by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman. The BBC has now officially stated that there are no plans for a new celebrity series to air in 2026.

A spokesperson for the BBC said: "Whilst there are currently no plans for any new celebrity editions this year, Pointless remains a much-loved programme for audiences on BBC One and iPlayer."

Reports suggest that Richard Osman had previously revealed on his podcast that the show was being shelved for now, commenting simply: "RIP."

Background of the Show

The main Pointless show, where contestants aim to provide correct but obscure answers, first aired in 2009. Its celebrity spin-off debuted in 2011 and has since featured numerous stars, including Gok Wan, Sally Phillips, Katherine Ryan, and Lee Mack. Richard Osman co-hosted the main version until stepping down in 2022.

Fan Reactions

The announcement has sparked discussion on social media. On Reddit, one fan asked: "Can someone explain why this decision was made? Thought it was a fairly cheap show production wise and rated well? Wonder if this is writing on the wall for the non celeb version as well."

Another viewer commented: "Loved it when it debuted. But the questions and format have gotten worse." A third mused: "Could simply be Richard Osman's availability with his new ITV show, podcast and career as a writer, he also quit House of Games."

However, not all fans are disappointed. One posted: "I really don't like celebrity versions of quiz shows especially. I know they donate the money but they simply aren't 'in the game' as much as normal folk who have probably never won anything in their lives."

Pointless and Pointless Celebrities air on the BBC.
