The Owen family held their first-ever sleepover at Anty John's, their restored Swaledale farmhouse, in the season four finale of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids, prompting an outpouring of support from fans.
The five-episode fourth season followed the family as they completed the exterior restoration of the derelict farmhouse. In the final episode, aired on Monday, November 2, Nancy and Clemmy rode on horseback into the wildflower meadow for their first ride since winter, and the family began moving furniture into the home as its interior took shape.
A Monumental Day at Anty John's
Amanda Owen described the day as "quite monumental" as the family moved furniture she had collected over the years out of storage. "We're taking up the Aga, in numerous bits," she said.
She added: "I like the idea of taking something on that's already had a life, something that's got a history. Something that's got a story behind it, and with it." Among the furnishings were a vintage clock and doorbells. Her ex-husband, Clive, noted, "There are some amazing things [that] she's found, with a plan to eventually finish Anty John's."
First Night in the Farmhouse
Amanda spent her first night at Anty John's with her youngest daughters and their best friend, Sophie. Nancy remarked, "After the past 100 years or more, it just sounds so amazing to think we are the first people to stay there, and changing this barn's future."
The following morning, Amanda reflected on the milestone: "The children absolutely loved it. That's not the first time that children will have all fallen to sleep in a great big, cosy heap at Anty John's, but just probably not for well over 120 years or so... I think it's going to make a good house, a good home."
Fan Reaction and Renewal
Fans shared their support on social media as the series ended. One person wrote on Instagram, "What a joy to watch these girls preparing to sleep in Anty John's after all this time," while another added, "Happy days, how exciting." A third commented, "This programme is absolutely heartwarming - but it doesn't last long enough! More episodes please and would love to see more of ALL the kids."
Following the end of season four, Our Farm Next Door has been renewed for two more seasons on More4. In series five and six, viewers will continue to follow the Owens as their plans for Anty John's press on and the building evolves from a house into a home. The series is available to stream on Channel 4.
