Channel 5's beloved period drama "All Creatures Great and Small" is set to return for not one, but two more seasons, with filming already underway in the Yorkshire Dales. The show, which has been hailed as the "best series I've seen in years" by fans, continues to captivate audiences with its heartwarming storytelling and stunning rural backdrop.
A Triumphant Return for the Skeldale Family
The series, which first premiered in 2020, follows young Scottish veterinarian James Herriot (played by Nicholas Ralph) as he leaves Glasgow to practice in the Yorkshire Dales during the 1930s. Along the way, he navigates challenging farm visits, eccentric employers, family dynamics, and local romances, all while developing a deep affection for the countryside and its inhabitants. The show is based on the beloved short stories by real-life vet Alf Wight, who wrote under the pseudonym James Herriot.
Channel 5 has secured a double commission for series 7 and 8, each consisting of six one-hour episodes, plus Christmas specials. While an exact broadcast date has yet to be confirmed, production is already in full swing, with the cast and crew returning to the picturesque Yorkshire Dales. Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor at Channel 5, teased that there are "many new stories still to tell and more unforgettable adventures ahead" for the Skeldale family.
Fan Excitement Builds
Fans of the period drama have been vocal in their anticipation for the new seasons. One enthusiast wrote, "This is the best series I have seen in years! Totally in love with the characters, the storyline, and the scenery!" Another added, "We wish we could be there physically. Waiting impatiently for the new season." A third fan remarked, "Darrowby - where beauty is found in the little things, delicate connections and gestures. I'm looking forward to S7!"
The show's warmth, humour, and heart, set against the stunning beauty of Yorkshire, have made it a firm favourite among viewers. With two more series on the horizon, fans can look forward to many more adventures with James, Helen, and the rest of the Skeldale family.
