Alison Hammond Reveals She Rejected Strictly Come Dancing Hosting Offer
Television presenter Alison Hammond has publicly disclosed that she was offered a role as a host on the popular BBC series Strictly Come Dancing, but ultimately turned it down. Hammond, who gained fame as a contestant on Big Brother and now co-hosts This Morning, was among several names speculated to replace outgoing hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.
Confirmation of Approach and Scheduling Conflicts
In an interview with Radio Times, Hammond confirmed the approach from Strictly Come Dancing producers. "I have, actually," she stated when asked about being contacted for the role. "You didn't expect that answer, did you? I can't lie, I'm incapable." She elaborated that her busy schedule made accepting the offer unrealistic, citing clashes with other commitments.
"I'm so busy, babes, that I'm not sure it's going to happen," Hammond explained. "It's unrealistic. I'm so happy they considered me but, like Traitors, I can't do it because everything clashes." Her current projects include a presenting role on The Great British Bake Off and the upcoming Channel 4 series Your Song.
Speculation Over Potential Replacements
With Hammond out of the running, other notable figures have been mooted as potential hosts for Strictly Come Dancing. The list includes:
- Zoe Ball, who commented in January that Daly and Winkleman would be a "tough act to follow" and expressed interest but acknowledged the challenge.
- Rylan, another popular television personality often mentioned in connection with the role.
- Fleur East, a singer and presenter whose name has circulated in media reports.
- Janette Manrara, a dancer and current host of the Strictly spin-off series It Takes Two, who described the main hosting job as a "dream job" for anyone in her field.
Hammond reflected on the opportunity, stating, "I would have loved to have done it – anybody that gets it, they're going to land the perfect job. But I'm so happy with everything I've got. What would I drop, to do Strictly?"
Background and Future of the Show
Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly announced their departure from Strictly Come Dancing last year, ending their long tenure as presenters. The show has faced various scandals in recent years, adding to the intrigue surrounding the hosting changes. Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to BBC One later this year, with the new hosts expected to be announced in the coming months.
The speculation highlights the high-profile nature of the role and the competitive landscape in British television entertainment. As the search continues, fans and industry observers await official confirmation on who will step into the coveted positions left by Winkleman and Daly.
