A nine-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a police car in Sydney's lower north shore. The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 pm on Monday on the Pacific Highway at St Leonards.

The officer was responding to reports of a fire when the collision happened. A NSW Police spokesman confirmed that officers provided first aid to the child before paramedics arrived at the scene.

The nine-year-old was transported to Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick in a stable condition. The driver of the police vehicle underwent a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result.
