In a delightful twist of Hollywood fate, Adam Scott has revealed a bizarre prequel to his working relationship with Michael C. Hall on the critically acclaimed show Severance, involving a case of mistaken identity on the set of the seminal HBO drama Six Feet Under.
The story, shared during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, highlights a surreal moment from the early 2000s. Scott, then a young actor, was visiting the set of the funeral home-based series where Hall played the iconic role of David Fisher.
A Case of Mistaken Identity
"I was on the Paramount lot, and the Six Feet Under stage was right next to the stage I was on," Scott explained. His simple attempt to use a shortcut through the neighbouring soundstage turned into an unforgettable encounter.
"I walked through the stage, and I hear, 'Michael! Michael!'", he recounted. A crew member, utterly convinced Scott was the show's star, urgently called him over. "He goes, 'We need you on the set, right now! We're ready for you!'"
Completely baffled, Scott had to awkwardly inform the insistent crew member: "I'm not Michael." The confused worker took a closer look, realised his error, and simply walked away, leaving a young Scott utterly bewildered.
From Awkward Run-In to On-Screen Partnership
Years later, the two actors would finally meet properly as co-stars on the mind-bending Apple TV+ thriller Severance, created by Ben Stiller. Scott plays Mark Scout, a leading figure in the show's mysterious Lumon Industries, while Hall portrays the chillingly calm and enigmatic CEO, Jame Eagan.
Scott confirmed he eventually shared the hilarious story with Hall himself, who found the anecdote highly amusing. The tale adds a layer of serendipity to their now successful collaboration on one of television's most talked-about shows.
The second season of Severance is among the most eagerly anticipated returns in streaming, promising to delve deeper into the sinister mysteries of Lumon after the game-changing cliffhanger of season one.
