Netflix has confirmed that there is no secret ninth episode of Stranger Things, despite a viral conspiracy theory suggesting otherwise. The show's official social media bios now state that all episodes are streaming, putting an end to speculation about a surprise finale.
The theory, known as 'Conformity Gate,' claimed that the Duffer brothers had hidden an additional episode that would reveal Vecna had survived the series finale. Fans pointed to supposed clues such as orange graduation gowns (contrary to Hawkins High's usual green and yellow), a doorknob on the wrong side in the Wheelers' basement, and a Morse code message in a stack of tapes spelling 'U DID NOT STOP ME.'
The rumoured 7 January release date originated from a TikTok video showing Mr Clarke standing in front of a clock set to 1:07, which fans interpreted as a hint for the episode's launch. However, no such episode materialised.
The series has been plagued by conspiracy theories since its finale, including false claims of tampered episodes and unaired scenes. The Duffers dismissed these in a recent interview, stating that there are no cut scenes and that online misinformation is rife. 'We would be here for hours trying to bat down the stuff that was not true,' said Matt Duffer.
