Newcastle vs Coventry: 14 players could miss Premier League clash

Newcastle United and Coventry City have a number of fitness concerns after the international break before they return to action on Monday night. Up to 14 players could miss the Premier League clash at the CBS Arena.

Newcastle's injury crisis deepens

Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle is hoping his squad emerges unscathed from international duty ahead of Monday's Premier League clash with Coventry City. The Magpies have been hit by an injury crisis, with Jaissle's side training with just a handful of first-team players earlier this week due to fitness concerns and international duty.

Newcastle expect Nico Gonzalez (concussion) and Joelinton (thigh) to return but have fresh concerns over Lewis Miley who left the England U21 camp early. They will definitely be without Ewen Jaouen. The goalkeeper is set for surgery after a hamstring injury on France U21 duty.

Six doubtful for the trip to Coventry

Anthony Elanga, William Osula, Dan Burn, Jacob Ramsey, Amar Dedic and Tino Livramento could all miss the trip to Coventry through various injury issues. Of those six, Burn and Osula look closest to a return.

Jaissle is waiting to see how Lewis Hall (England), Sean Steur (Holland U21s), Aladji Bamba (France U21s), Lukas Hornicek (Czechia) and Matias Fernando-Pardo (Belgium) shape up on their return to Tyneside.

Coventry's own fitness worries

Coventry boss is also waiting on returnees and is particularly keen to see players like Jay Dasilva (Wales), Frank Onyeka, and Taiwo Awoniyi (Nigeria) return without injury after the three-week break. Milan van Ewijk is expected to be fit again this week after missing the Forest game with a hamstring issue. Josh Eccles is also hoped to return to training following a calf strain.

Striker Awoniyi will definitely miss Monday's match as he serves his final suspension. Haji Wright remains out with a quad strain until the end of the month, while Aurele Amenda faces a longer spell on the sidelines with a calf tear until Christmas.
